WE GROW FOOD

Our Mission & Vision

Our mission & vision reflect why We Grow Food exists and where we hope to grow. Rooted in community, education, and access to fresh food, they guide our programs, partnerships, and gardens. Together, they shape how we support meaningful connections through growing and learning.

Mission

We Grow Food provides neighbourhoods with the education, tools, installation, and ongoing support needed to grow their own food. Through neighbourhood gardens, hands-on learning, and ongoing mentorship, we help people of all ages, including the many students we teach through school garden initiatives, build confidence, and strengthen relationships. Together, we work on community-led solutions that uphold everyone’s right to healthy, accessible food, along with the knowledge to grow and use it.

Vision

We envision a future where fresh, homegrown food is part of everyday life in all neighborhoods across Durham Region. A future where people have the skills, confidence, and supportive spaces to grow together, with an emphasis on early learning and knowledge that can be carried through generations. As our gardens and partnerships grow, we’re helping to build a community-led food system that can be shared widely and strengthened for years to come.
