GET INVOLVED

Help Us Grow Today

There are two main ways to get involved with We Grow Food: by volunteering your time or by bringing a garden to your school or community space. Both options help grow connection, learning, and access to fresh food. We also gratefully accept donations, which make a huge difference in supporting our programs and keeping our gardens thriving.

Volunteering

Volunteers help our gardens and programs thrive. You can join us as an Education Volunteer to support hands-on learning with students, or as a Garden Mentor to help care for community gardens throughout the season. No prior gardening experience is required — just curiosity and a bit of heart.

Garden Installation

If you’re interested in starting an edible garden at a school, organization, or community site, we’re here to help. We offer guidance, workshops, and installation support to create spaces where people can learn, grow, and share fresh food together.

HOSTING

Garden Installation

Bring an edible garden to your school, nonprofit, or community space! We’ll help design and build a garden that supports hands-on learning, fresh food access, and environmental awareness.

VOLUNTEERING

Education Volunteers

Join our team in the classroom and the garden! Volunteers help children create wicking pots, map their gardens, paint plant plaques, and plant vegetables. It’s a fun, hands-on way to inspire the next generation of growers.

VOLUNTEERING

Garden Mentoring

Perfect for those with experience, or passion, in horticulture or agriculture! Garden Mentors dedicate 3–10 hours a month to help maintain gardens and ensure they continue to thrive long after planting day.

SUPPORT

Donations

Your support helps us grow! Every contribution provides seeds, soil, and tools for our gardens and educational programs. Together, we can make fresh, healthy food more accessible across Durham Region.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who helps We Grow Food thrive. Our volunteers, partners, funders, donors, community organizations, educators, families, and students all play a vital role in growing gardens and relationships across our community. Every seed planted, hour shared, workshop led, and contribution made helps create spaces where people can learn, connect, and enjoy fresh, healthy food together. Thank you for being part of this work, we truly grow because of you.
